VRF-lite is normally a VRF without MPLS and MPBGP. VRF Lite a subset of VRF. MPLS es una tecnología de reenvío de paquetes que utiliza etiquetas para tomar decisiones relativas al reenvío de datos. Virtual routing and forwarding (VRF) is a technology included in IP (Internet Protocol) that allows multiple instances of a routing table to co-exist in a router and work together but not interfere with each other.. This increases functionality by allowing network paths to be segmented without using multiple devices. MPLS-based VPNs require baseline MPLS functionality in the provider network. Once basic MPLS is operational, you are able to configure VPNs that use label-switched paths (LSPs) for transport over the provider core. The addition of VPN services does not affect the basic MPLS switching operations in the provider network. The VRF is the fundamental mechanism that enables the partitioning of individual customers over the shared IP routed infrastructure. A VRF is maintained by a PE device and contains the routing information that defines a customer VPN site.
